Connect a manufacturing execution system with Dynamics 365 Finance SCM

Connecting a manufacturing execution system to Dynamics 365 may be necessary if production requirements cannot be met by Dynamics 365 and a third-party system takes over this role.

While a large number of processes are outsourced to the third-party system, certain key data and information must be exchanged between the production system and Dynamics 365 at regular intervals.

FlexxLink offers extensive options for connecting manufacturing execution systems (MES) with Dynamics 365 and supports the following processes:

Release and withdraw production orders

The transmission of production order data to the external production system is controlled by FlexxLink based on the status of production orders.

When a production order is released, customized information is transmitted to the production system.

In the event that a production order is set to a status < "Released", this information is also transferred to the external system in the course of a cancellation.

Start production orders

Released production orders are available for processing in the production system.

As soon as a production order is started on the shopfloor, this information is transferred to FlexxLink - in Dynamics 365, the production order is thus started in a parameter-controlled manner.

Processing feedback from production

The feedback of information from production is the most important part of the integration of a manufacturing execution system.

The following points must be covered in the course of this feedback:

Good and bad parts produced

Material consumption

Production times

FlexxLink offers extensive options for receiving and processing this information within Dynamics 365 Finance & SCM and creating a corresponding data basis for subsequent processes.

Finish production orders

Once the production order has been completed on the production system side, the completion of the production order must be transmitted to Dynamics 365.

The termination triggers defined processes within Dynamics 365 and transparently indicates that no further transactions are to be expected.

The termination of production orders from external production systems is parameter-controlled by FlexxLink.

Monitoring and benefits with FlexxLink

For monitoring purposes, FlexxLink offers a central workspace as a single place of truth for integration with the external production system.

Keep track of all transactions, validate data and track errors to ensure a smooth production process.

This central overview makes it possible to identify potential problems at an early stage and rectify them before they disrupt operations.

In addition to this central overview, FlexxLink offers numerous other advantages over standard MES integration:

  • Customized triggers for the transmission of information to the MES
  • Full flexibility for message content & structures
  • Communication-based process automation
  • Advanced logics and processing options
  • Mapping of highly individual company processes
